Preparation method

  • Add the beer to the flour and mix with a whisk, making sure you get all the lumps out.
  • Add the oil, egg yolk and salt and mix into a smooth batter. Let the batter rest in the refrigerator.
  • Just before using, beat the egg white into a firm foam.
  • Fold into the batter and use immediately.

Serving suggestions

  • As a warm component in a dessert, e.g. a deep-fried banana.
  • Ideal as a deep-frying batter for shrimp.
  • For the classic fish & chips recipe substitute the beer with cider.
