Grilling produces an intense flavour due to the caramelisation of the sugars in the asparagus, this brings out a completely different side of the asparagus than what we know from just cooking the asparagus.

classic cooked asparagus, still slightly firm

 As needed:


olive oil

Preparation method

  • Cut the classic cooked asparagus lengthways into halves.
  • Sprinkle them with olive oil and mix in a bowl to ensure the oil is evenly distributed.
  • Grill the asparagus on a hot grill, barbecue, or grill pan.
  • Ensure grill markings are left on the asparagus but make sure they do not become black as that makes them bitter. 

Serving suggestions

  • As a vegetable garnish with meat dishes or with firm fish types that have been fried or grilled.
  • As a garnish in a cold or warm salad with shimeji mushrooms, rocket, and poached egg.
  • Goes well with salmon strips and pink pepper.
