Grilled watermelon

The sugars in the watermelon caramelise through contact with the hot grill, intensifying the taste. Use a firm and preferably not too ripe melon. Seedless melons are easier to cut into neat strips.

Preparation method

  • Cut the melon in the desired shape, ensuring that the flesh does not become bruised.
  • Pat the melon surface dry and grill on a hot grill or barbecue.
  • Sprinkle with olive oil and Maldon salt.

Serving suggestions

  • As part of a starter or salad, e.g. grilled watermelon with tomato confit and pistachio nuts, olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar.
  • Grilled watermelon with feta and pickled red onion.
