Mango Batido from the Dutch Antilles

A special drink brought back from a trip to Curaçao. Batidos made from various kinds of fruits are sold from street stalls all over the island. You can also mix different types of fruits in one Batido, such as banana, mango, strawberry, and melon.

Makes 650ml.

Ingredients

ripe mangos

500

ml

condensed milk

As needed:

 

granulated sugar

As needed:

 

ice cubes

Preparation method

  • Peel the mango and remove the fruit from the pit.
  • Blend the mango with the condensed milk and ice cubes until the ice is crushed.
  • Season with extra sugar.
  • Refrigerate.
  • Fill a glass or cup with the Batido, adding extra crushed ice if desired.
  • Garnish with a slice of mango.

Serving suggestions

  • As a unique cocktail or refreshing drink at the poolside or other outdoor location.
  • As a basis for further preparation, e.g. ice cream, foam, or mousse.
  • Use in a composition with components of banana, avocado, and chocolate.
