Columbus, who discovered America in 1492, took the corn plant back with him to Spain where it had no problems thriving immediately. Sweetcorn is used in food in a myriad of ways, such as: cornflour, cornflakes, corn starch, corn oil, corn beer (such as in Africa), whiskey, popcorn, polenta etc.
