Tangerines are citrus fruits that come from the tangerine tree which was originally native to China. Nowadays, most tangerines imported to the Netherlands come from Spain. Tangerines may look like a summer fruit, but they are mainly available in the Netherlands in the autumn and winter. You can now buy many seedless varieties, such as clementines (sweet in flavour) and satsumas (slightly sour). One tangerine contains around 55 mg of vitamin C per 100 g of flesh. Store tangerines outside the refrigerator, in a cool (12-15 °C), dark place.
